Incident report · Chapter 357

Unfortunate: Part 2

Voyage day unrecorded

News crews film the smoking tower and read Hisoka among the dead — accurately: he suffocated under the blast and the press of puppets. Then Machi, staying behind to stitch the corpse, watches its aura swell. Hisoka's dying order sent Bungee Gum to pump his heart and lungs after death; he wakes, rebuilds his face and limbs with Texture Surprise, binds Machi, and declares he will kill every Spider. Chrollo, unaware, phones Shalnark about boarding the Black Whale for Kakin's treasure — and within the hour Hisoka has left Kortopi's head at Shalnark's feet and Shalnark dead on a swing. Two down, ten to go.

Event sequence
  1. Nen revealCanonical
Bungee Gum restarts a dead man's heart

As Machi prepares to stitch the corpse out of professional courtesy, Hisoka's aura surges: before dying he ordered Bungee Gum to activate after death — Nen intensifies post-mortem — and pump his heart and lungs. He wakes, confirms with Machi that he was really dead, and patches his ruined face, hand, and leg with Bungee Gum and Texture Surprise.

    Consequences (2)
    • The public record says Hisoka died at Heavens Arena — and stays wrong
    • Post-mortem Nen jumps from lore to demonstrated fact
  2. DecisionCanonical
Hisoka declares war on the Spiders

Hisoka pins Machi with Bungee Gum and gives her a message for the Troupe: he is done picking his battles — he will hunt and fight the Spiders wherever they are, one by one, until every one of them is dead.

    Consequences (1)
    • The hunter-and-prey roles of the coming voyage are set — in both directions
  3. DecisionCanonical
Chrollo sets the Troupe on the Black Whale

On the phone with Shalnark, Chrollo lays out the next job: the Kakin royal family is inviting civilian passengers on the voyage, and the ship will carry a considerable treasure. The Troupe will board the Black Whale, steal it, and reunite the whole Spider at sea.

    Consequences (1)
    • The Phantom Troupe's presence aboard is planned before departure — for treasure, not for Hisoka
  4. DeathCanonical
    Kortopi and Shalnark are murdered

Minutes after the phone call, Hisoka walks out of a public bathroom carrying Kortopi's severed head, tosses it to Shalnark, and kills him with a single strike while he catches it. He leaves Shalnark's body tied to a swing with Kortopi's head at its feet: 'two down, ten to go.'
