The Succession Contestescalating

Nasubi's fourteen heirs are locked aboard the Black Whale in a sanctioned war of survival: the last prince standing inherits Kakin. By chapter 411 the reader learns it is stage two of a four-stage ritual — and if no sole victor emerges during the voyage, the dynasty itself falls. Four princes are down; the First Prince's martial law turns the endgame into a purge.

Kurapika & Room 1014escalating

Kurapika takes the least survivable job on the ship: bodyguard to the infant Fourteenth Prince and Queen Oito. He converts Room 1014 from a shrinking fortress into a school and intelligence hub — then discovers the prince he guards is a swapped-in boy, and stakes everything on declaring 'Woble' ineligible while hunting Beyond's curse.

Benjamin's Military Machineescalating

The First Prince fights the succession war like a general: Nen soldiers embedded as 'observers' in every rival's quarters, Balsamilco running strategy, beasts hunted by Predator, princes assassinated under cover stories, and an inheritance ability that turns each fallen soldier into ammunition. At chapter 413 the machine reaches its climax — poisoned, betrayed by his own mother, Benjamin declares martial law and plans to die into godhood.

Ship Security Crisisescalating

The Black Whale's official order — military above, Justice apparatus beside, understaffed clinics below — buckles under wars it cannot acknowledge. Mizaistom links the murders to the contest and is disbelieved; curfews catch princes instead of killers; and the crisis resolves the worst possible way: Special Martial Law hands the whole structure to the First Prince.

Beyond & the Long Gameescalating

The expedition's caged figurehead turns out to be the arc's deepest architect: for thirty years Beyond seeded Kakin's military with his own children, each a curse sacrifice sealed under the tongue, aimed — probably — at the princes, with one prince possibly his own blood. Longhi's confession, Furykov's reveal, and Bill's defection drag the dormant thread to the war's center while Beyond himself asks, mildly, for a meeting.

Kacho & Fugetsu — The Escapeactive

The twin princes opt out: Fugetsu's door-conjuring beast will carry them off the Black Whale entirely. The escape fails at its cruelest point — leaving the ship means death for a participant, and Kacho dies pushing her sister back aboard. What returns in her shape is her guardian beast, Without You, which now leads a Tier 2 conspiracy to make Fugetsu king while something feeds on the surviving twin.

The Silent Majority Killingspaused

Woble's bodyguards die drained of blood inside a sealed, guarded suite — five on night one, then class attendees Barrigen and Myuhan. The ability is named; its snakes and marionette are mapped; its user remains a ghost, deterred but not caught by the classroom's permanent witnesses.

Halkenburg's Conscienceescalating

The Ninth Prince rejects the war as barbarism, marches on his father, and — when the ritual catches his bullets — awakens instead: he will win the throne to destroy the throne. His beast trades followers' bodies for enemies' wills; his experiments make him the arc's coldest scientist; and by chapter 404 he has killed his own body to fight on from inside Benjamin's strategist, an arrow already flying at the First Prince.

Tserriednich's Awakeningescalating

Theta agrees to teach the Fourth Prince Nen, planning to throttle the pace. Tserriednich learns in days what takes others years, survives her point-blank bullet through a Zetsu-borne vision of the future, and turns his teacher's deception into a leash around her neck. By day twelve he is closing on sub-second Zetsu — and martial law has just named him a terrorist.

Luzurus's Quiet Campescalating

The Seventh Prince stocks his camp with professional Hunters, feigns stoner passivity, and waits out the mafia phase of the contest. His threshold keeps becoming other people's stage — Shikaku's suicide, Kanjidol's probing — until martial law arrives early and Luzurus reveals how sharp he actually is: no resistance, burn the drugs, and put the Hunter where the killer is.

The Troupe Hunts Hisokaescalating

The Phantom Troupe boards to finish Hisoka before he finishes them — with Illumi seated in Uvogin's chair at Hisoka's own request. The hunt sweeps up through mafia territory, plants a fake Hisoka to blind the families, unearths the Troupe's own founding tragedy in flashback, and finally finds its quarry lounging in the Tier 1 casino while Chrollo quietly targets Kakin's three sacred treasures to evolve Skill Hunter.

The Nen Classesescalating

Kurapika's answer to an unwinnable defense: teach Nen to every camp, flooding Room 1014 with rival observers whose presence deters the hidden killer — and whose awakening spreads guards thin across the block, turning the whole contest defensive. By round two the classroom hosts eighteen students, at least one of them a curse assassin.

The Three-Family Warpaused

Kakin's three families — Cha-R, Xi-Yu, Heil-Ly — board as uneasy peers, each sponsored by an elder prince. Morena's civilian-registered killers force a war that becomes procedurally official when no boss makes the customary call; the Troupe joins the extermination side; and the front line runs through hidden rooms, waste plants, and a Tier 3 that martial law finally puts on its knees.

Morena's Contagionescalating

The Heil-Ly's 'boss' is a Carne Levare orphan wearing a dead royal's name, running the family as an annihilation cult: Contagion turns recruits into Nen users who level up by killing. Her base hides between Tiers 2 and 3, planned before the ship launched; her reach includes the Cha-R's own underboss; and her newest, coerced recruit is the specialist Borksen — a mole who intends to fight from inside.

Special Martial Lawescalating

Kakin's constitutional kill switch: in a crisis threatening the monarchy's survival, the military absorbs all three branches of government. Kaiser briefs it as a nightmare scenario in chapter 400; Benjamin engineers and declares it for 2:15 p.m. on day twelve — rival guards executed on sight, Hunters exempt, princes herded into Room 1001 — racing his own poisoned body toward anointment and a god's death.
